Re: [suse-security] kernel update oddity on 9.0 Professional

I've noticed a peculiarity the last couple of times I tried to update the kernel of my two SuSE 9.0 Pro machines via Yast. <cut> I also got a message warning me to run /sbin/SuSEffective (which as far as I can tell isn't installed on either of my SuSE computers.)
I actually thought that part of the message was missing (because of the formatting). I never bothered to figure out what I had to run, and have not suffered any (direct) problems. Robbert Eggermont R.Eggermont@EWI.TUDelft.nl

It was probably SuSEConfig, which is automatically run if you install rpm's via you or yast. The note is just there in case you install the rpm via the command line.

It once kicked my postigconfig totally :-( Somebody has stupid ideas deploying such patches! Even it files are changes manually you get those message it cannot change the file but changes files after such strange updates. A question and answer thingydiny would be better than doing direct changes or some note on what to do would be enough. It should be called SuSEdeconfig! I prefer the debian's apt-get! Philippe
