Quoting Robbert Eggermont
I've noticed a peculiarity the last couple of times I tried to update the kernel of my two SuSE 9.0 Pro machines via Yast. <cut> I also got a message warning me to run /sbin/SuSEffective (which as far as I can tell isn't installed on either of my SuSE computers.)
I actually thought that part of the message was missing (because of the formatting). I never bothered to figure out what I had to run, and have not suffered any (direct) problems.
It was probably SuSEConfig, which is automatically run if you install rpm's via you or yast. The note is just there in case you install the rpm via the command line.
