Hello, Just to ask the obvious question - have you run amidiag or similar motherboard, memory and other system checks on the machine. Hardware failures can leave any op. sys. state 'undefined' as the saying goes. Also has the machine got a a power smoother, (not just a UPS), on it. A friend of mine who is an electrician has run tests on the power supply, (in the UK obviously - it may be different where you are), and has detected individual peaks in excess of 800 Volts. Normally these aren't significant because of the period of the peak but it's worth considering that a power or hardware glitch may have zapped your op. sys. Juth a thought. Did you upgrade to the latest MySQL Package for your Version of SuSE?

There was a possible buffer overflow possibility in MySQL, maybe someone tried to exploit it and crashed your machine?
Yes, I did it yesterday - after the crash ... But this machine has no connection to the internet ...
Thanks, Martin
