hi florian,
From: Florian Winger [mailto:fwinger@gmx.de] Hello list,
I`m using SuSE 8.0 and want to use the rlogin or ftp command. I have already removed the SuSEfirewall2 and the personal-firewall pakages with YAST2. But I´m still not able to rlogin from a different PC. "IP Adress: Connection refused"
check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny, are you allowed to rlogin from localhost? do you have SuSEfirewall2 installed? What does your syslog say (/var/log/messages)? can you ping that host? did you spell your password right? are you connecting as root or as any other user? check whether you can rlogin to localhost (on the machine you want to connect to) if that works: check the network: ping the host check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny check /var/log/messages for any suspicious entry if rlogin to localhost did not work: check whether rlogin is enabled (/etc/inetd.conf & start inetd) check whether the user is allowed to rlogin (/etc/hosts.deny and /etc/hosts.allow) check for any other netfilter (iptables -Ln, ipchains -Ln) regards, stefan
