My Xorg.0.log says:
(II) RADEONHD: version 1.3.0, built from dist of git branch master, commit 8cbff
[...]
(**) RADEONHD(0): Option "AccelMethod" "exa" (**) RADEONHD(0): Option "DRI" "true" (**) RADEONHD(0): Selected EXA 2D acceleration.
However, after you've stressed that the acceleration must be enabled I double checked and found the following as well:
(WW) RADEONHD(0): Failed to initalize EXA; disabling acceleration.
So I build the driver from git but that did not help at all. Only the version changed:
(II) RADEONHD: version 1.3.0, built from git branch master, commit 79a0ab2f
I tried disabling Composite but this did not help at all.
Also, note that I'm using dual-head setup.
Check your xorg log and dmesg to see why acceleration failed. Most likely you have the fglrx kernel module loaded or you have kms enabled in the radeon drm which only works with radeon.
