I switched the second monitor's mode to 1280x1024 with xrandr --output
DVI-I_2/digital --rightof DVI-I_2/digital --mode 1280x1024 --rate $RATE
I ran each available rate for about an hour, but there was no significant
flickering or noticeable difference. I did verify that the monitor was indeed
running at each rate. I believe they were 59.9 75.0 and 84.9.
However, in that same period, when I was running at native resolution 1920x1200
@ 60.0, I didn't experience any problems either. Sometime it flickers and turns
off a ton of times in thirty minutes, other days I can go a couple hours
without an issue. So that isn't the best debugging method.
Any ideas on a better way to accomplish this? I guess I can run it for a full
day with each mode and rate at work. That will take me some time to get back to
you though ;) Thoughts?
