Have you added a Virtual <x> <y> to you xorg.conf like described in the wiki? With --right-of you need a larger allocated framebuffer.
Forgot to include mailing list, so resending. My xorg has this: Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" SubSection "Display" Virtual 3200 2040 EndSubSection EndSection The rest is default Ubuntu 8.04 config.
Other than that, your TV seems to be detected, you might want to explicitly add --crtc 0 or --crtc 1 to you command line or fetch a more recent xrandr.

My current xrandr is from Ubuntu package x11-xserver-utils, version 7.3+2. Where would i get a better version?
