It appeared to us that mailing lists are mostly fine the way they are. In particular they don't really fall under the "fragmentation" issue that we have often seen raised about the many channels (like, whenever someone complains that Discord + Matrix + Telegram + IRC make it difficult to follow where things happen). That is the issue which we had in mind when designing the section of the survey you are referring too. they said it was omitted because mailing lists are not part of a problem (false but I get the point)
