[opensuse-project] organization of conference
Hi, Afaik the latest news on the next openSUSE conference is that AJ and Prusnak are looking for a decent location in resp. Nuremberg and Prague. They will come up with one or more proposals and the people who have stepped up for organizing will discuss and decide. Those people include afaik Klaas Saturday, ALan Clark, Bryen Yunashko, Izabel Valverde, Peter Linnel. AJ and Prusnak and some ppl from the SUSE Labs conference and myself. If you want to help out, add yourself to http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_Planning_2011 I'm sure Prusnak and AJ would appreciate help, esp if you like in Nuremberg or Prague! Izabel just started on a sponsorship brochure, but we need a final location to be able to send that out - prusnak, aj, do your thing ;-) I volunteered to help out with marketing (as part of the marketing team) and the program committee. As per Henne's request, let's have any further discussions about the conference here, on this list, until it bothers people and they tell us to get our own room/mailinglist ;-) Cheers, Jos
I think the most important thing for the conference besides venue and time is coming up with a great motto/theme for it. Last year's motto was "Collaboration across borders" - what shall it be this time? I would say - keep it. It worked great, it fits us and our culture, why not have this as a recurring theme until we get bored with it?

Though -1 here, it is a catchy title for a conference but not for a project, I find it too complicated and I am in love with 'Have Fun' moto

I agree, but we don't want our conference motto to get stale. So once in a while it does need to get changed.

TBH if I saw 'Collaboration Across Borders' I'd assume I was looking at an old page and go googling for something up to date. As per the other thread on this topic, what about the suggested rwxrwxrwx - rwx^3 - kinda techy, but why not for something with a bit of a developer focus, and those of us who are less techy enjoy that we know enough to grok the meaning. :) Collaboration is great, but I don't think it's bad for the distribution to look inwards occasionally. Completely agreed. Need at least a small modification to differentiate from the last conference. So anyone can find easily and wihout doubts it's this year conference with new themes. Said so if you want to keep the same spirit from last year and addin some spice into it to make it nice one. You could add: "Collaboration Across Borders: the Beginning" , "Collaboration Across Borders: the Development" or anything that make sense and focus what would be the central motto this time but renewed.

Inclusive "Collaboration Across Borders: Stronger" is connotative for "inward" and "outward" strenghts. It doesn't make a distinction and covers the angles. As I said during the last project meeting I am giving up on this topic for this year's conference. Yeah, all we need is a concrete proposal and we can choose. Frankly, I'm sure that if there is a decent proposal for oSC 2011 Prague in December (a location, basically) then there won't even be much search for any other place :D

Ok, seeing the responses here, looks like people loved the topic from the last conference but like a (small) change. The suggestion to use "Collaboration Across Borders II" doesn't introduce complicated words but differentiates it from the conference in 2010. I'd say let's go with that. Looks like it is time to start up the Program Committee. 4 people (including myself) have stepped up. Anyone else who thinks he/she should be on there? I would personally appreciate one or two more technical people to step up (besides Pascal). Cheers, Jos
