BACKGROUND OF PROJECT I m Anurag , BE First Year Student Of CSE at Bangalore. I m currently working on an android app of mine and I m looking for some opportunity to work for open source community. I can design the UI of opens SUSE News/Planet on Android in such a way that it will be highly responsive , fluid and attractive of course. I can also do the coding for the app as I can use Intents,Services,BroadcastReceivers,Handler ,thread,Fragments, etc .
IDEA (DEVELOPER CONSOLE):- I came up with an idea that this app must have a separate column for the suse developers where they can login with their username and password and post some thread or they can discuss some ideas with other developers on the go as android device is common tool of any developer.
IDEA (COMMON USER LOOKOUT):- I would also like to add login support for common user of suse. They can login with their own unique username and password synced with their suse pc. After they are logged in they could be able to see all the packages installed in their system, any update available for any package or not .This android app should also show the top, most downloaded package on suse.
IDEA (BRINGING NEW USERS):- There must be another column that reflects the brightness of suse to a person who haven’t used suse till now. This app will demonstrate the remarkable features of suse who are unknown to suse and it will surely attract them towards suse.
Seems to be a good idea. But why are you coding a new app. Why cannot you support a SUSE News/Planet on browser and write a app to open this with customization which are what the app supports.
MY WORKS As I mentioned above I am currently working on my own android app , I would like to show you the glimpse of my app .Since my coding is still going on ,it have some bugs and lacks some function but it is a matter of time I will make it complete. My app is a FileManager type app which is capable of taking backup of installed apps and can perform some basic file operations like deletion, etc. The whole app of mine is being coded on FragmentActivity And Fragments. My app can run on Android 1.6 to Android 4.1.2. I have also used the external library for my current project. ** For Best results Use android device having screen size 4 inch and resolution 480x800. I have included my apk link , if you wish you can see my work. http://hotfile.com/links/202179406/ab7d94e/UltimateTasker.apk
But seems to be complicated.
BENEFIT If I get a chance to work with suse community ,definitely I am gonna to be benefited as suse is open source community and they are always ready to share knowledge with others. I will try my best even if it takes the eternity to benefit suse community with my work somehow.About 2 years back I started to work on Ubuntu and then onwards I totally migrated from windows to Linux OS.
TECHNICAL DETAILS The person should have knowledge about Android API’s,Java,XML. If suse is impressed with my idea of “Developer Console” and “Common User Lookout” , then to implement them in an android app ,suse needs to provide their own API for android or any External Library , that’s what I believe.
WHY ME i) If I am having a mentor guiding me throughout this course of 3 months I will surely complete this app . ii) I am great fan of open source terminology and I always wanted to work with them anyhow and I will myself make my app open to all. iii) Whatever project is proposed by your side ,it is within my limits of coding . iv) If get a chance to work with you I will gain something and again I future I will come up with more ideas and more programming skills.
LONG TERM PLAN I am really excited to work on long term basis with suse of any other open source community if I get a chance. After the GSOC 2013 I would like to continue this project own my own for suse until it becomes the ace . Even though if GSOC ends I will continue working on android and if I work on an android app of suse for long term basis I will definitely get the support for your side and will boost my skill as well as I will be able to contribute more. CONTACT Email:- coolanuragdzxj@gmail.com Mobile No:- +918892471328 I would like to get response from your side on my project as soon as possible so that I will prepare myself, Thanking you in anticipation.
