Re: [opensuse-project] Introducing myself for GSoC 2013. Idea - Discussion System for the Open Build Service

I am not sure if I understand you right. The idea here is to implement a system which gives the users in obs, the flexibility to discuss about the ongoing matters. Maybe a little centralised depending on how the architectures persists. Pastebin is something entirely different from this.
What I meant was pastebin or susepaste are used to collaborate a knowledge share/patch/document/a question etc. How different is your system from this. Also is a Operation stand point or a developer stand point. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, but imo, it still it won't help people initiate a discussion. Lets say if there is a long thread to be or is being discussed, sharing links off of paste bin or susepaste can get too tedious. Rather having a centralized portal to discuss all matters would make it much easier and easy to follow. This is the 1% of the idea I interpreted from the original GSoC idea post on the wiki. I am still waiting on discussing the idea in detail with the mentors. So something more substantial can be seen in my proposal I believe :). You could get that in an CHAT(IRC)/If already discussed you would be the reference.

But if I am the reference how do you keep track of it? Keeping track on local machines versus keeping track on a public domain is different. Plus having a common portal will be better I guess. Anyways, this could be even a feedback platform. Like I said, I still have to discuss the idea with the mentors in detail. So nothing is definite as of now :)

Umm, I am not sure if it still serves the purpose well. But like I said, I will have more concrete answers sooner than later;)

Sorry Typo "You would be" should have been "You would get".

Donot get what you are saying, Could you please submit a project as told to you by your mentors. I think that is missing.

This is an opensuse project which is similarly named to yours.

Hey Sujit, Please do not attack the student. If you have any healthy contributions to the idea please feel free to promote else stop spamming the list with baseless ideas / points. Also, if you are willing to apply for GSoC Please present yourself to the list Thanks Manu On Fri, Apr 12, 2013 at 4:25 PM, Sujit Karatparambil <sujit.kmadhavan@gmail.com> wrote:

I donot know how you think I should stop coming to this mailing list. I donot think you can ask me to stop spamming this mailing list. Only a admin can ask me to stop. Also I have had a lot of healthy contributions to Linux/Opensuse. Could you also please let me know what is baseless. As far I can see though the student seems to promoted his qualification etc, He has not done a basic thing like giving a introduction to what he needs to do in the project. As far I see the project is well established and he is trying to add functinality to it. Also what I find is that is He is just trying to copy from other similar project and completing this project.
Also, if you are willing to apply for GSoC Please present yourself to the list
I had passed out close to 15 years ago. So to think I need to take part GSoc is totally stupid. As far as I think about you, I think with close to 7 months of experience you are a jack ass/Idiot of the first order, with no sense of ethics. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Sujit, stop insulting people on our mailing lists. Consider this a fair warning. Here at openSUSE we value the respect for other persons and their contributions, for other opinions and beliefs. We listen to arguments and address problems in a constructive and open way. We believe that a diverse community based on mutual respect is the base for a creative and productive environment enabling the project to be truly successful. We don't tolerate social discrimination and aim at creating an environment where people feel accepted and safe from offense. Sorry to hear. I am unsubscribing from all open suse related mailing lists.

If you think you can continue to produce the same quality every time with this attitude, I think you should start a newbie mailing list for GSoC projects. I am assuring you that this is more productive for a person like me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

I guess this would be the best part of idea; to add ability to give feedback directly in OBS, not somewhere on the net. Few days ago I commented in opensuse-packaging that what is missing very often is user feedback on some packages that compile fine, install fine, but have sometimes bugs that prevent software from being used. I can file bug report, but it is in bugzilla. Nothing in OBS tells packager that there is a bugzilla report. If I'm lucky packager will have time, look at bugzilla and use right search to have report listed, but with so many conditions chance that report will find right person is slim. Having integrated messaging system is much better option. Packager will get message when logged in, or via email, and instead of thinking that there is no problems, and start looking for something else to do, will look how to fix package, or how to pull it out of circulation until it is fixed. People will be able to post links to articles in forums, mail lists, blogs, and packager will have references at hand instead to chase them around the web. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
