A lot of people are mailing election-officials because the system doesn't work. So, hrm, here's a mail to tell people it's known. I think people are working on that. I got that mail, but that's the first news I have about that "spokesperson". I may have missed the dicussion here, and a grep for "spokesperson" in the mailbox turns empty. Link, please? I can't vote unless I know what it is about. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. And here there is a bit more: <http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_spokesperson_concept> But the info there is from last november. I miss an "official" statement or announcement, at least concurrently with the request for my vote. I like to know what I'm voting about. See the mail " /ignore the voting mail ..." from 17:09 ... you don't see any "candidates" because i chanceled the election again. I got another e-mail today and it seems well this time. :-) By the way, I have some questions. Who have the vote for this election ? Who decided who have the vote ? As we know, community members are grouped into some categories. [1] Board [2] "Members" approved by the Board http://en.opensuse.org/Members [3] Registered users in 'User Directory' who support the Guiding Principles. [4] Registered users in 'User Directory' who haven't supported the Guiding Principles yet. [5] Persons who think (s)he is a member, want to be a member, ask if (s)he is a member, as mentioned in http://en.opensuse.org/Community [6] Everyone who uses openSUSE (*) (*) There's a statement "We consider our users to be part of our community" in Guiding Principles. This election is aimed to decide just the name for the 'spokesperson', and it's not so critical issue for our community, because I consider, "Who can be the 'spokesperson'?", "What are their tasks ?" ... are much more important than their name. However, IMHO, in case of organizing some elections for important things hereafter, we have to discuss who should have the vote. It will always be the Members who will vote, afaik. Well, even if the Members are automatically given right to vote for every elections, are there any rational explanations why we should always limit voters only to Members ? -- _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ _/_/ Satoru Matsumoto - openSUSE Member - Japan _/_/ _/_/ Marketing & Weekly News Team _/_/ _/_/ mail: helios_reds@gmx.net / irc: HeliosReds _/_/ _/_/ http://blog.geeko.jp/author/heliosreds _/_/ _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

There are various reasons. Here's one: because we are 99% sure they are real people (since their application was checked). Anybody can create 10 accounts on user.opensuse.org and approve 10 times the guiding principles. (and generally speaking, it's really much much simpler than considering any other group) Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Good point.

Yes and no. Actually Marko was working on it to have a general voting, but i wanted to have this election fast (it was already way over time) (and no, it's not Markos fault). So we decided to go on and let only the members vote. I guess there are elections where also non members should be able to vote. I think it's ok on this one because probably mostley members will be a "spokesperson" or have to deal with them. -- with kind regards, Martin Lasarsch, Core Services SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5 90409 Nürnberg GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) martin.lasarsch@suse.de - http://www.opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Well... I had a look there, but I simply have no idea what to vote. I don't know what it is about, there is not "proclamation by the candidates", so to speak. Pros and cons of each name. There is no current info given. Yes, I have seen the link to the proposal last year, and I will try to read the thread on the marketing list (which I'm not subscribed to, nor will I). But I would appreciate a summing up somewhere. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I'd avoid "spokesperson" as that may imply a little more than we want to -- i.e., that the individual speaks for the entire project.
