[opensuse-project] Google Talk Config with Kopete
Kopete is nice. But Google Talk configuration should not have to be this annoying. To get Google Talk to work, you have to add "Jabber" in your accounts list, change the default port to 443, turn on SSL, set the default server to talk.google.com, and then plug in your name and password. Wouldn't it just be easier to have a "Google Talk" option that pre-sets this stuff? An end-user would probably just give up or try to use Pidgin or Empathy. -- Jason Perlow jperlow@gmail.com (201)735-5838 Twitter: http://twitter.com/jperlow Technology Columnist, ZDNet Tech Broiler (http://blogs.zdnet.com/perlow) Blogger/Podcaster, Off The Broiler (http://www.offthebroiler.com) LinkedIn Public Profile: http://www.linkedin.com/in/jasonperlow -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

maybe we're using different versions (i'm on oS 11.2 / KDE 4.3.1 / kopete 0.80.2), but when i entered my google chat account, i just clicked on the jabber connection, provided gmail acct. & password, and it started working... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

i just noticed that we are in the wrong mailing list: this is no topic for "project." better post your question again in "kde" or "opensuse". and then it's no good replying to my personal address; others on this list won't see it. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

It's been on the Kopete todo list for ages, but it's really upstream's (or a motivated openSUSE contributor who wants to implement this and get it merged) business to add and maintain this - I (as the Kopete maintainer @SUSE) just don't have time to work on this.
