[opensuse-project] Branding Overview
Hello list, is there a way to expand this list [1] so that it includes older versions of SUSE as well? Well .. I knew that much, but the problem is where to get those old images from? I personally do not have some SUSE 6.x Discs around .. I thought, maybe someone on this list has access some older distributions. I personally will try to get those images for 10.0 and 10.1 this weekend. Also I just noticed that there are many links to https://svn.innerweb.novell.com/svn/pdes/branches/SUSE10.2/ I do have an Novell Account, but I can not log on there. Maybe it is much easier to get those images from there. At last, in the wiki [1] it states "Novell restricts the use of its Marks. Please see the openSUSE EULA and Legal for possible obligations on your part. For your convenience we have a collection of tools (see Making a SUSE based distribution, rembrand) to help you with such obligations." I've looked through those pages, but could not determine, wether it could be a problem of setting up pre 10.2 images on the official opensuse wiki. OT .. but I need to express my great joy at the green artwork, combined with the removal of ZMD from default installation, 10.3 is shaping up very nicely so far. Maybe it'll measure up to the last x.3 release, which many consider the last truly great release. With this responsiveness to the community I'm sure we'll be very succesful. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Hi Alex, I've created the overview page to help check if the artwork in the build corresponds to the latest designs. They weren't meant as a gallery of how each release looked. That said, you are free to fill in the older stuff, but I fear that would mean diving into older ISOs. cheers -- Jakub Steiner <jimmac@novell.com> Novell, Inc. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Diving into older ISOs is only a problem if you either don't have them, or the relevant files aren't available in the discontinued/ directory. So, just a couple of questions: How far back would be acceptable? I have the installation discs going right the way back to 8.1, as well as 7.3 and the abomination that was 7.0 Personal, so could possibly take the images from those[0]. I would have suggested using mirrors, or the ftp.suse.com discontinued/ directory, but it appears that the discontinued/ directory has been emptied of versions before 9.0. Which layout is preferred? The one for 10.2 or that for 10.3? Personally, I prefer the one for 10.3, as it looks cleaner. Also it's much quicker to load since the images aren't all on that page. [0] Rembrand contains a list of images that have Novell/SUSE branding, so using that list as a basis should be fairly easy to extract the images from the relevant packages/installation file systems. You can find from 7.3 to 9.1 at ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/discontinued/i386, with the corresponding updates under /pub/linux/suse/discontinued/i386/update Also, you can find 5.3 at /pub/linux/suse/5.3 (no updates, I think). I dont' know about version 6, or 7.1/2. Updates for SuSE 5.2 to 6.2 are under /pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.de/.obsolete/suse_update. Version 7.0 is at /pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.de/suse/i386/7.0, and updates from 5.3 to 7.2 are also at /pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.de/suse/i386/update. A bit disorganized, maybe... but most old versions are there ;-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I must be going blind, or maybe senile, not sure which. I could have sworn I'd looked all through the suse/ directory looking for older versions and not found them. So far, I've added pages for 10.0 and 10.1, as well as the images. I'm not sure whether to add the earlier versions, although I may add 9.3 as it's still supported. Nice! I'm sure it would be really good to have the earlier versions too, but might not be worth it if it's a hassle.
