[opensuse-project] Google Summer of Code 2009 - Ideas and Help

Hello, This is in regard to Google Summer of Code 2009. I have some ideas regarding Monsoon - the BitTorrent client presented in openSUSE. My idea can dramtically enhance file sharing speeds and reduce time. I have written a paper on the subject and it is pending review. I would love to see my idea implemented in openSUSE. If it seems, fit either I can make a completely new *solid* BitTorrent client or integrate my idea in Monsoon itself. The idea is completely original and has not been implemented anywhere. If this is the wrong mailing list, please let me know. If I am at the right place, and anyone can be a mentor, I am fully willing to discuss my idea. I promise, it is good and interesting. As the total download capacity of a P2P network is throttled by its total uplink capacity, how do you intend to circumvent this? P2P systems could benefit from solving the inefficiencies in finding the closest peers. (Both in terms of latency and throughput.) It wouldn't fundamentally change the capacity limitation of P2P networks, though. The total download throughput is equivalent to the total upload throughput. The overall performance and scalability would still be determined by the non-P2P portion of the network. This is especially true for openSUSE, where we have significant non-P2P capacity, thanks to our mirrors. Therefore, I strongly suggest to further pursue a hybrid approach, leveraging P2P as extension to a distributed delivery network, as aria2c implements. http://lizards.opensuse.org/2008/12/16/best-way-to-download-opensuse/ I would be very interested to learn more about your proposal though, and I would like to see how it fits into the openSUSE project. Of course openSUSE is principally very interested in content delivery technologies, because they lay the foundation of its existance. So let's hear your ideas! Where can we get a prepublication version of this paper? Do you have a CiteSeer link?
