I think the problem is that the message content is sent to all the forum subscribers by mail after the 10 minutes delay (I receive it often before it is written to the forum :-)
That delay is for the NNTP gateway - if we're talking direct to e-mail gateway, I don't know that such a delay is necessary; but I also don't know how edits to messages are handled with the mail gateway.
