Shashank, that is a very very very interesting initiative! Personally I am not sure I can help a lot here, but I'll do my best. First thing could be to discuss your ideas on a public mailing list, like in here, and make know people that you are organizing that (like you are doing). However I see that there are only 3 days left, not much time to change anything. So, one thing you could do is write a small report when the event is finished, with some pictures, and if you post it on http://techfreaks4u.com/123/ I will blog about that for sure. good luck! jordi massaguer i pla http://jordimassaguerpla.blogspot.com/ lin.cat: Serveis professionals en linkat http://www.lin.cat ----- Mensaje original ----

Para: opensuse-project@opensuse.org Enviado: lunes, 7 de abril, 2008 11:25:16 Asunto: [opensuse-project] Request for advice and help from OpenSuse Community Respected Community Members, We are group of students who deeply believe in principles of Open Source, and in true spirit of freedom, we love to share our ideas / knowledge with others .This is what motivated us to form a Linux user group in our university (Jaypee University of Information Technology,India), when we found out that our passion had caught on with other students and people were taking interest in Open Source & Linux in general. That was two years back. After toiling for 2 years thence, we have been able to include our events in our universities main Cultural Festival "Le Fiestus" only this year. The events vary from "Hacking Challenges" to "Quiz"; though small in number we expect the events to be more attractive and bigger in upcoming years. After Formation of Linux User Group, awareness of Open Source and Linux in general has increased manifold, and we are taking small steps toward complete shift towards Linux. Due to popularity of Linux, our university decided to provide an opt-in course to students for making students aware of Linux. We are even trying to take this knowledge outside confines of our university and make local computer vendor in our region sell Linux laptops and Desktops. All these factors contributed to what we see today in our university, a healthy viewpoint of students towards Open Source without any misconception, to further this cause the idea of organizing event in a cultural fest was born, but without any prior organizing experience we felt bit marooned. More than fifty percent of our Linux users are OpenSuse users, that made OpenSuse community natural choice for us to ask for help. We have an open Request for OpenSuse Community and Linux community at large, of helping us in our nascent steps of making Linux a natural concept as freedom rather than just an alternative to Microsoft Windows.
