Some cards simply do not work with nouveau and users are forced to install the proprietary driver. And in those many cases where nouveau work, it can not be used for demanding applications such as games - for example, the opensource flight simulator, fgfs. Nouveau does not have hardware accel nor 3D support, at least for my card. But that's not the issue. There is an rpm for the driver, but it comes late.
