off topic...
let me tell you a story about etiquette... One day in the university I opened the door and invited the girl who was behind me to go first... She looked very strange at me and said: in modern times etiquette changed and women and man are equal... you were first you should go first... Then I learnt my lesson... never try to impose your etiquette on others... The only thing you learnt is that she imposed HER ignorant and misguided code of etiquette on YOU!
You should have simply told her that the code of etiquette which YOU were applying was something which was in place for hundreds of years and that you INSIST that she walk through first according to YOUR code of manners.
You could have also asked her if she was wearing a bra and if she was to take it off and burn it in front of you. (Always carry a box of matches or a cigarette lighter for such occasions, BTW.) Can we terminate this completely pointless offtopic new thread ?
To begin with, you raised the issue about the "etiquette" and how you got zapped by a female for trying to apply your manly and cavalier etiquette in existence for hundreds of years towards a woman. I still apply this etiquette which I learnt from childhood and only get, "Thank you!", for my manners each and every time. But, yes, we can terminate this 'thread' which, of course is not a "thread" of its own but part of the main thread called, "troubles with the vote.....". While you are the one who introduced this subject, I am quite happy to drop it.
Basil, Do you have a user page in openSUSE listing your contributions ?
Pray tell: why should I, or anyone else, have a "user page"? Is this a mandatory requirement to use openSUSE and belong to its mail lists? (See also below.)
If not, can you create one ?
As in the above para. - why should I do so? I haven't put my name forward for membership of the Board - but you have. Are you implying that anyone who uses openSUSE has to create and maintain a "user page" which lists "[one's] contributions" before posting messages in the openSuSE lists?!
I believe it will be more useful for the community than this pointless subthread about women& culture.
Keeping in mind that you were the one who introduced this "off topic" subject about "women & culture", you seem to have a twisted idea of what "community" means when it comes to openSUSE. Here is what the Guidelines state about the "community": ... our users, their desires and goals, their need for help when encountering problems and their support for our common project. We listen to our users and focus on their needs throughout all our activities. We consider our users to be part of our community. Repeat, "We consider our users to be part of our community." But no mention to create a "user page". But please point me to the specific reference where this is mentioned as a requirement.
Thanks.
