Please take a look at my proposal and comment. http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/proposal/review/student/google/gsoc2014/v...
Thanks. Varad
==> Varad, As you know we've gone over my original NTFS shadow copy idea and you have significantly revised it to be adding a snapshot framework to KDE/dolphin. I think that is great. = Implementation The project will involve creating an extension for Dolphin that supports the following features, depending on the snapshot manager backend used: Mount, create and delete snapshots Browse snapshots View and revert changes in snapshots The libvshadow library is implemented in C, and provides a command line interface to work with. Snapper too, provides a command line interface, and supports communication through D-Bus. The available APIs can be called through a generalized framework, and thus, both of these backends can be added as use-cases to the proposed extension.. = One thing I note is that the proposed framework is going to provide functionality that libvshadow can't fulfill. Assuming you still have edit rights to the proposal, I suggest you explicitly say that the libvshadow use-case provided will only support mount, browse, and file copy options due to the limited functionality provided by libvshadow. ==> Other potential mentors / KDE team members I'm not familiar with KDE / Dolphin code, so my potential mentorship will be primarily restricted to the libvshadow use case implementation. If would be great if others could review the proposal for technical merit, as well as potentially becoming a mentor on the project.
