In the previous opensuse releases this was not a problem. netcdf is a quite extended format used by thousands of users around the world and, in my modest opinion, it should be (easily) possible to link to this library statically.
Sebastian, could you file a bug report following the instructions given at http://bugs.opensuse.org and tell me the bug number? That's the best way to move forward here.
