Hi!
Since I am in the Board I have met many people and made many good friends, as well as gotten a better overview of how things in openSUSE work. However, because of personal reasons, I do not have the time anymore to carry out the tasks of the openSUSE Board with the dedication they deserve to be done properly. Consequently, I think that it is fair that I step down and allow someone else to take my place. It seems to me that the best moment to do this is in the next elections, so that the person who substitutes me is elected by the community. That means that there will be 3 seats to be elected instead of 2 in the next elections. I hope that there are plenty of people running for the elections! :) To motivate those who may be considering running for the board, here is a list of things that the board could do / continue doing / help with that I personally found important in the last months:
- Transparency on how the Board works: Continue writing the meeting minutes, keep documentation about the board in the Wiki updated, making votes public, etc. - Transparency on how openSUSE works: economical transparency, ensure that the documentation about openSUSE in the Wiki is updated (for example the membership rules and the information about communication channels), etc. - Continue supporting our communities all around the world with events like the openSUSE.Asia Summit (this includes but is not restricted to economical support). - Promote and facilitate that openSUSE encourages and helps newcomers: support mentoring programs, keep documented and accessible the places to ask for help, etc.
Last but not least, I would like to thank everyone who supported me during this time.
Regards,
Ana
Hi Ana, First, please accept my apologies for taking so long to reply to this announcement; it was posted on the first day of a vacation with family. Your time in the Board, while cut short by this decision, has been exemplary. The passion and enthusiasm you bought to the group has been infectious both within and beyond the confines of the Board. That includes inspiring a new tier of enthusiasm within myself, an area I never thought I was lacking in. As Chairman, it has been one of my greatest pleasures to have served in a Board alongside you, including and perhaps especially those times we did not see eye to eye on details. While I understand you wont have time to contribute in the ways you have to date, I hope you will continue to be an active part of the Project where I am sure you will continue to affect change even if no longer part of the Board.
