Hey,
I think we shouldn't have ideas about custom distros listed for GSoC: the ideas themselves are cool, but they're not appropriate for GSoC projects.
A GSoC project implies development of code and most of the custom distros ideas are about integrating different components together, in the right way; but not about code.
I'm afraid that listing those ideas when we apply might lower our chances of being accepted...
Opinions?
Cheers,
Vincent
I've never really followed GSoC, but maybe: Have a supplemental section somehow that says: == In addition to the typical coding projects, openSUSE provides an extremely powerful build and custimization capability called openSUSE Build Service. The OBS is more than just a build farm, it is a full software management system for building distributions. It is used by openSUSE to build its full official distributions as well as to build a number of custom distributions. To fully leverage its capabilities, the advanced user must master packaging of individual packages, patch generation and application, system configuration management, and kiwi configuration. Although not standard coding skills, they are none the less valuable skills that can contribute greatly to the opensource community in the long run. Below the openSUSE team has proposed a selection of custom distributions that could be created via OBS. The new custom distributions would be great benefit to the community while at the same providing the student valuable new skills. === Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
