Quite often, there is a line in a file (be it code or documentation, it is not really different in this case) which a few years later might seem wrong, outdated or no longer needed. If I stumble across such a line of {code, documentation}, it is very often helpful to ask the original author what this specific piece of {code, documentation} was about, because he might remember the context. And sometimes it is just "Oh, that was probably wrong from the beginning, just drop it", but even then the original author might know best. -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman
