StarOffice / OpenOffice for PPC?
Hi group, although it's written nowhere explicitly I've come to the conclusion that Linux 7.1 for PPC comes without StarOffice. With YaST or YaST2 it's not to find in "pay" or somewhere else. Thus my question: Will there be a StarOffice / OpenOffice release for PPC (OldWorld Mac architecture) with Linux 7.3 or later? Open Office has been ported to PPC. You can get it via www.penguinppc.org It is still beta. --
Hi All, Just a piece of information to add to the picture. I have moved my machine to be glibc 2.2.X based so all future builds of OpenOffice available from penguinppc.org will require a glibc -2.2.X system to work properly. This includes the very next build OpenOffice633 which is going to be our first milestone build. I do not know if a glibc 2.2.X based SuSE is coming soon (or even already here?) but if not, I would be happy to help some interested sole to build OpenOffice-633 (and later) builds under the latest SuSE ppc release until it becomes glibc-2.2.X based (if it isn't already!). If anyone is interested, please let me know. Thanks, Kevin On Monday 16 July 2001 10:15, Joss Winn wrote:

7.1-ppc is glibc 2.2 based, so it should work. I asked some guys here, they said it took a few weeks to compile it at all on intel. There is no package yet, is it stable enough for shipping a binary package? Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...
Hi,

Absolutely, YDL 2.0 shipped OO 627 on its Tasty Morsels CD. We (OO) just finished our first milestone build. It is OO633B and I have both an English version and a German version of the installer all built for ppc linux. I have not tested the German build since I can't read any of the buttons in the installer (my German is that bad). Would someone there be able to test either or both of these builds to make sure they work under 7.1 ppc on SuSE? If they do, I would love to have SuSE mirror both for others to grab. If you are interested, I would be happy to ftp them to whereever you want. Both installers are over 50 meg in size. The english version can also be downloaded from http://crunch.ivey.uwo.ca/khendricks/openoffice/ but I have not uploaded the german version anyplace since it has not been tested. The OO633B build is a big improvement over earlier builds in both features and stability (spellchecking and thesaurus for US english), anit-aliased text for tt fonts, etc. The only thing of importance really missing is online help which has yet to be written (and then still has yet to be translated). It is possible for me to make French, German, Danish, Dutch, Greek, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Polish and Japanese builds as well if anyone there is interested enough (you would need a cd-rom just for OO to release the source, and binaries for each language!). Hope this helps, Kevin
Hi, BTW, please do not load down my machine (crunch.ivey.uwo.ca is our main research machine) That binary was put there for SuSE to test first and then mirror for others if they are interested. If the load impacts machine performance I will not e able to use it to post things there for others in the future. So please be kind and wait until Olaf and company has tested it and mirror it for all suse ppc 7.1 users. Thank you, Kevin

Kevin, thanks for your efforts! I just grab the files and put them on ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/powerpc/openoffice I guess they will appear also on penguinppc.org soon. Adrian tried to build the CVS tree on intel and ppc and it didnt work very well, he can comment on it. I didnt check the build logs. Gruss Olaf On Sat, Jul 21, Kevin B . Hendricks wrote:
