[opensuse-ppc] Factory for PPC again building
Hi, I just got informed that openSUSE Factory is again building against PowerPC. So while there is no distro as of now, Factory could be tested and used. (Or even snapshotted.) Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

How much time does it take to sync it to powerpc.opensuse.org? So I don't rsync to it every few minutes :-D Bye, CzP -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

Is there any way to know when powerpc.opensuse.org has synced? Other than by checking timestamps of e.g. key files at http://powerpc.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ (such as ChangeLog ) - 12 October is the latest that I can see today. I have bandwidth limitations that I keep hitting so I don't want to waste it on old stuff. Is the webmaster (ftpmaster?) of powerpc.opensuse.org subscribed here - perhaps (s)he could tell us. -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

I do not think he is, but I asked coolo. If this package is succeesfully built: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=_product%3AopenSUSE-ftp-ftp-ppc&project=openSUSE%3AFactory then around 2 hours later the packages will be synced. (It is building the ftp tree I think.) Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

And one can check here where package building is at the moment: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=openSUSE%3AFactory i586 and ppc has roughly the same "successful" and "failed" count, which is a good sign, as far as I can understand. Marcus, Thank you for the good news. When it comes to CISC vs. RISC, I've been finding lately that the PowerPC chips are more elegant than the Intel-based things that even the Mac laptop in-house is running on. Has anyone gotten together a roadmap for 11.3 yet? I know 11.2's only bee out shortly, but....... :-) How hard would it be to snapshot something that would be close to the 11.2 release? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org
For the record, I'm also one of those openSUSE PPC users. I'm thinking about updating my iBook (G3)--it's currently running 10.3 or 11.0. I do not use it that often. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

For the record, I too use openSUSE PPC. I have a G3 Powerbook (Pismo) with 768MB RAM and a 120GB Hard drive and I use 11.0. I tried upgrading to 11.1 unsuccessfully. It was too sluggish with KDE 4. I didn't try too hard to speed it up, but reverted to 11.0 with KDE 3 and am quite happy with what I've got. I use it every day. There were actually a few things broken such as wifi (though I think my wifi card died in the meantime) and Open Office also was broken. So I reverted. I do like the idea of being able to upgrade without having to reinstall, such as from 11.1 to 11.2, but would have to go through the whole reinstall from 11.0, which is a pain when you have everything working to your satisfaction... -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ on openSUSE Linux -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

Building seems to be stuck at the "berkeleydb" package. According to https://build.opensuse.org/package/live_build_log?arch=ppc&package=berkeleydb&project=openSUSE%3AFactory&repository=standard it is in the testing phase. This page did not change in the past few hours. Could somebody check, if it is a package bug (a test is broken, probably an endless loop), or it is just the BS not refreshing the live logs? Thanks, bye, CzP -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

OK, sorry for the noise, it is working, just (very) slowly... Bye, CzP -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

Did it ever finish building? I looked in factory and there are a lot of old dates on them and the Net ISO is still at 10-14. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

Yes, but ISO files were never generated, as building of factory was restarted (don't ask me why, I just figured out the fact :-) ). But build time was 14+ hours due to some test runs, already discussed on the packaging list and fixed... It takes several days to complete a factory build and unfortunately new packages were checked inon Friday :/ Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org
