[opensuse-ppc] Updating
I am using 10.2 on a PowerBook Pismo (G3, 32 bit) and am v. happy with it. I just installed and got everything configured in the last week. I am now trying to update. I am using KDE as my desktop. The default update program in the panel is the GNOME one. I tried that, but it insisted on installing all the 64bit packages. I didn't want to do that so I aborted and configured the KDE one. On selecting to update the packages, it took me to Yast, but again had a bunch of 64 bit packages selected. I went through these and removed all the automatically selected 64bit packages, but ended up with the following error: #### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2007-03-14 16:00:03 #### atom:bind-libs-64bit-9.3.2-56.1.ppc[20070314-152336] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies There are no installable providers of bind-libs-64bit >= 9.3.2-56.1 for atom:bind-libs-64bit-9.3.2-56.1.ppc[20070314-152336] Conflict Resolution: ( ) install bind-libs-64bit ( ) do not install bind-libs-64bit ( ) Ignore this requirement just here ... and so on for 16 different packages... If I select ( ) do not install bind-libs-64bit, and click on try again, I get the following: #### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2007-03-14 16:16:05 #### patch:bind-2529-0.noarch[20070314-152336] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies There are no installable providers of bind-libs-64bit == 9.3.2-56.1 for patch:bind-2529-0.noarch[20070314-152336] Conflict Resolution: ( ) unlock bind-libs-64bit ( ) unlock all resolvables ( ) do not install bind do not install patch:bind-2529-0.noarch[20070314-152336] ( ) Ignore this requirement just here ... again for all packages, except libsoup-devel-64bit, which was not listed this time. I must confess, I don't quite understand all this, but have now selected the "do not install" option for each of these patches, and the rest of the update seems to be going fine. I assume that these are actually 64 bit packages, despite the "noarch." But if not, is there something I am missing? How do I apply these patches? Do I need to? It looks like the patch for bind (a collection of packages) contains also 64bit packages. I suggest you open a bug at https://bugzilla.novell.com/ and attach /var/log/YaST2 Its most likely not a bug in YaST, but in the way the update for bind is provided. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

I had this issue as well. However, I did not install ZMD(no idea if you did either) on my Wallstreet or my G3-AIO. I just told YaST to skip the installation of each 64bit package and then it was fine and didn't ask for them again. I never opened a bug for it tho. ________________________________________________________________________ Check Out the new free AIM(R) Mail -- 2 GB of storage and industry-leading spam and email virus protection. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

Would you then recommend uninstalling zmd? I do have it installed. I seem to recall reading something about it being problematic in the past, (10.1?) but thought it was handled. -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ on openSUSE Linux --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org

Most definately. The communinty recommends against installing it and it will become an install option instead of mandatory with v10.3. YOU is much faster with v10.2 than ZMD. I've seen ZMD suck up all available resources with a reboot being required. I also don't recommend installing Beagle, openoffice.org, or Apparmour. I don't even run a software firewall since my router has one in it. Any really important info I have is saved on a machine not connected on-line anyway. Personally, I don't like openoffice because it's way to resource hungry. Since I use KDE, I just use KOffice, which has full support for ODF anyway. Same with Beagle. On my WinDoZe machine, I don't have Google Search installed either. I don't see the point. Just my humble opinion. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@opensuse.org
