Did you try the 2.4.16 kernel from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.4.16/ ? That's the version I finally succeeded with. 2.2.16/2.4.2 as of Suse 7.1 were able to boot with any setup in my case, by the way.
I tried the vmlinux-2.4.16.gz from yesterday. Doesn't work. I really narrowed the problem down to the SCSI device. Finally, I contacted SuSE installation support. They told me to download the vmlinux.elf-pmac from the beta kernels directory. Problem is, if I try to use that with BootX, it freezes the Mac without ever entering into boot mode. I am wondering if anybody could explain the secret of the kernel images directory. Why are some kernels gzipped and others are not, why the non gzipped images will not load on my Mac etc. The lady from SuSE acknowledged, anyway, that there seems to be a kernel bug regarding SCSI and that they are working on it. I don't know how long that will take. So in the meantime any other suggestions may be helpful. I am at my wits end. Herouth -- EMAIL: herouth@netvision.net.il HOME PAGE: http://www.herouth.f2s.com/
