I have installed and ran v10.0 release on a 7500, a 9600, and a Beige G3/266. On all 3 of the machines, there is no info available about SCSI. There is no /proc/scsi directory(which does exist on my P3 Dell with the same Adaptec controller). Is there some reason for this? I looked over the notes, but didn't really see anything. Also, could this be an Old World issue? I do not have any New World machines. Anyway, for those considering running SuSE on an old world mac, I do recommend a G3 upgrade to faster than 350Mhz. My G3/266/512k is a great deal slower than my 7500 with a G3/400/1M. The 7500 is much more responsive and surfing the web is much faster as well. Also, I recommend using a PCI SCSI card. The 4 digit machine's MESH controller is 5MB/s and the NCR is 10MB/s. I have an Adaptec 80MB/s card, and it is well worth it. The Beige G3's IDE is only 16.7MB/s as well, and I have 40MB/s SCSI drives that run much faster. However, I have noticed that once you get past 128MB RAM, there doesn't seem to be as much of a speed difference as I have seen on the Intel machines. I have also installed with as little as 64MB(had to activate swap). My Via USB 1.x PCI card has never worked on any of my Macs, but works fine in the x86s. Also, my 9600 has a kernel panic with my Opti or Lucent USB 1.x cards installed when trying to start an install. The 7500 doesn't tho. I tried all 6 PCI slots in the 9600 with no luck. Is anyone else running an Old World Mac? Please let me know....Thanx ___________________________________________________ Try the New Netscape Mail Today!
