Hi Olaf, I finally managed to install XF864.2, and could test the nv driver of Ani Joshi. I could get the X server to start, but whatever XF86 config file i tried, the best i could got was a totally red screen with nothing on it and no way out of it... I sent Ani both the XFree86.log and the XF86Config files for him to see what could be wrong, and to propose him to serve as a guinea pig for whatever tests he would like to do in order to have his driver operational for this particular hardware, and on a suse7.3 distribution. But got no answer yet. It's already pretty nice to have the whole thing working, even if only with unaccelerated graphics. the most problematic thing at the moment is that the cdrom, modem and sound don't work, and hfs support is lacking from the kernel. I can live without sound, but for the rest, it's a pain. In the meantime, i tried kernel 2.4.18-ben0 from the xorsis kernel site, and could boot fine (conversely to both 2.4.12 coming with suse7.3 and 2.4.16 downloaded from the suse site) but the X server could not start (even with the fbdev driver). i checked in console mode that what did not work with Ani's kernel (modem, cdrom, hfs support) works with Ben's kernel. I tried to use Ben's modules with Ani's kernel, but unsurprisingly, it didnot work. Would it be possible that somebody at suseppc (you i guess... :) ) takes a hand on all changes included by Ani and integrates them within the standard suse distribution. i think there is quite a number of dumb guys like myself who bought G4s with nvidia cards without even realising that there was no linux support, and who would really be extremely happy if a decent linux implementation could now be made available. Again, i'm willing to serve as a guinea pig for whatever new kernel integrating nvidia support you could build. Hi everybody, I recently managed to implement suse7.3ppc on a G4/733 tower with a nvidia GeFroce 2 MX graphics card and a 17" flat panel (apple studio display), using the kernel recently posted on, eg www.penguinppc.org, by Ani Joshi.
Please ask Ani to change his .config, I dont have the sources of this kernel.
Gruss Olaf
