Hi, I'm trying to install my Epson print server on several linux systems (all SuSE 7.1) and am having really no luck. I've tried to follow the instructions in the SuSE Support database and things don't work out. I tried setting up the remote printer, but the test didn't seem to work. That's not quite true. Whenever I tried a test, I'd get a message like:
lpr: connect: No such file or directory jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.
Then at some seemingly random future time, the test files started printing (mostly raw postscript). I now seem to be able to print text files to this queue. I'm not sure why or how I got it working, but it seems to be working now. I then tried setting up the apsfilter and have had no luck connecting it to my remote queue. So does anyone have a good description of how to install printer queues for an Epson Stylus Color 740 printer living at an ip address of 192.168.123.160?
(By the way, the print server responds to pings quite well and printing from either MacOS or Windows works fine, so the printer is not the problem.)
Does your printserver have a lp emulation? yast1 should allow you to setup a remote printer with lprold.rpm, I do that all the time here with a HP 4050TN. yast1 -> integrate hardware -> printer no color postscript printer 600 dpi a4 any port /dev/null 600x600 -> configure network -> remote printer printername: foo spoolfolder: use default servername: 192.168.123.160 remote printername: lp (may differ) rclpd restart Its possible that you have to remove the /var/spool/lpd/ directory first.
