Hi, Anyone know if there are patches available to use dvdmrw? I quite like the DVD-RAM disk i have, but want to also use dvd+rw disks... can't find any linux software though. :( -Nigel

For plain DVD+RW, look at http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/ where there's a kernel patch. It seems to work well, at least with my Sony (read "quirky") DRU-500A. The only drawback of DVD+RW compared to DVD-RAM is disc durability - if you're modifying the content of a disc frequently (eg. a "live" filesystem rather than just for archiving stuff) it'll become unusable very quickly. As for DVD Mount Rainier support, I don't know. Once drives appear that support it (i.e. actually have MRW firmware rather than just being "MRW ready"), I'm sure one or other of the patches (packet-CD, CD-MRW, DVD+RW) will support it fairly quickly. I've tried the below patch, not with very much success, I have an LG GSA-4040B. When writing a dvd+rw i can write random locations, but when i copy a large file onto a udf filesystem, i get a rw error and the drive light flickers for infinity after that. The more times I write it seems the more I can write... very strange. Just some info... sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 62x/62x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray sr0: mmc-3 profile capable, current profile: 1Ah I had to hack the dvd+rw code in order to have it co-exist with cdmrw, nothing hectic though just a few hunks not finding their yellow brick road. This might not be the right place to ask these questions, so if anyone can point me in the right direction please do so. Oh ya, verbatim claims their dvd+rw disks are based on SERL technology, this as far as I can see supports infinite re-writes? Thanks! On Sat, Jan 31, 2004 at 10:17:25PM +0000, Stephen Mollett wrote:

Ok, I've just found something interesting.... Writing 32k blocks to /dev/sr0 works fine, I can write 143445 blocks... which is approx 4.7GB. *ponders if it has anything to do with the mrw patch* any ideas? On Sun, Feb 01, 2004 at 10:45:22AM +0200, Nigel Kukard wrote:
