Using 2.4.10 with the patch from http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/ I have found that, when trying to run mkudf, mke2fs or anything else that works directly with the block device (such as setting up a loop device on it) on /dev/pktcdvd0, I just get lots of 'wrong bh size' messages in my dmesg output and nothing gets written to the disc.
I haven't tried this with 2.4.10 but it does seem to work on my system with 2.4.11-pre4 and the updated packet patch: http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet-2.4.11-pre4.patch.bz2 This could be a generic kernel problem caused by the recent block device changes, which perhaps has been fixed in 2.4.11-pre4. (This is just a guess though.) This patch also disables the code that tries to recover from I/O errors on the CDRW disk. I have never seen that code working. All it ever did on my system was lock up the kernel. -- Peter Österlund petero2@telia.com Sköndalsvägen 35 http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340 S-128 66 Sköndal +46 8 942647 Sweden
