[opensuse-packaging] poppler maintenance
Hi, I'm a bit worried about the fact that poppler bugs and security issues get assigned to me. And, hrm, as far as I can tell, I'm not even marked as maintainer of the package in the build service ;-) (it's Stephan Binner) This is probably because, before the opening of factory development, the GNOME team was marked as maintainer of poppler, which is, I think, purely historical (it was probably first needed by evince). This could also be because I'm the one who updated the package lately, but I was probably just the fastest to do it... It's quite some work for me since I don't know poppler that well and there might be other people who know the code better than I do (or as well as I do). I certainly don't want to leave poppler unmaintained, and so the situation won't get worse, but having help from other people would be quite great :-) So, is there anybody else interested in becoming co-maintainer of poppler? That actually surprises me :-). And I have neither the interest, time nor easy access to make security/online updates. Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

Stephan Binner seems also wrong because "osc maintainer openSUSE:Factory poppler" results -------------------------------------------------------------------- bugowner : dirkmueller maintainer : dirkmueller, nadvornik, wstephenson, Beineri, hennevogel, dirkmueller, keichwa, coolo, mkudlvasr, sbrabec, snorp, maw, pgajdos, vuntz, llunak, mseben -------------------------------------------------------------------- Because dirkmueller is bugowner and two times maintainer (wow!) it seems he is three times responsible (WOW!) in contrast to you, you are only responsible (i.e. only ordinary one times responsible ;-) Additionally osc cat openSUSE:Factory poppler poppler.changes | grep '2009 - ' shows that in 2009 the majority of changes were made by you so that this indicates that actually you are the one who works most often on poppler which may make you some kind of "actually acting maintainer".
This is probably because, before the opening of factory development, the GNOME team was marked as maintainer of poppler
Out internal tool "maintainer poppler" results gnome-maintainers@suse.de and - as far as I know - this is still valid for all distributions except openSUSE 11.2. The internal tool is about to be obsoleted for all openSUSE distros at least. And in fact you looked at Factory data in the internal tool, this is anyway worthless as announced before. So currently the defined bugowner is Dirk Mueller. That does not mean that no one else can fix the issues. Esp. the other people listed as maintainer. If this is not correct, please adapt this in the meta data of the package. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE Linux Products GmbH email: adrian@suse.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org

That's what I said in my mail: I was simply the fastest to update the package. If you look at my changes, then you can see that I merely updated the package to a new upstream version, and did nothing else most of the time... Anyway, again, I'm just asking for help from other people. I'm not saying I'll stop working on the bugs or poppler in general -- this would be plain wrong. In fact it is Dirk Mueller: osc maintainer openSUSE:Factory poppler Following to the development space: X11:common:Factory / poppler No dedicated persons in package defined, showing the project persons ! bugowner : dirkmueller However, Dirk is of course also over loaded, so the rest of the mail stays true ;) ...
