Richard, is this true? If so, why?
I think that is not true anymore. GCC used to rely on string merging
for RTTI so it also didn't work reliably across shared library boundaries.
There may be details I am missing, but the most prominent issue with
static linking is that of glibc and not properly operating resolvers.
