I have installed 8.2 Professional on my new machine having a GA-7VAX onboard audio (Realtek ALC650). The pcm works...I can hear CDs played back. But, programs like KRec or Audacity all tell me that there is no audio available or it is not configured. Also, there is no MIDI port recognized.
So, I installed an extra PCI based Soundblaster (Audio PCI 128) card I had. The results were the same.
SB PCI 128 definitely works fine for recording. If you have configured this as a second device, you have to tell the application that it should use this device. Since both krec and audacity are OSS applications, I recommend QARecord for reliable recordings. QARecord uses the ALSA driver and is multithreaded to avoid buffer overrun problems. QARecord is part of the kalsatools package found in SL 8.2. The latest tarball is found on http://www.suse.de/~mana/kalsatools.html Don't forget to verify your mixer settings. Capture has to be activated and properly levelled. Matthias -- Dr. Matthias Nagorni SuSE Linux AG Deutschherrnstr. 15-19 phone: +49 911 74053375 D - 90429 Nuernberg fax : +49 911 74053483
