Hello guys Recently i installed the new suse linux 9.0 on my computer. The computer has also a pinnacle pctv pci card inside. The setup detected the card automatically. After playing around with the tv applications (kwintv, xawtv) I noticed, that I'm not able to get all the channels. I considered the channels list from our cablenet. I noticed that all UHF channels and some VHF OSB channels are impossible to get. I found out that, it has something to do with the driver, because before I had linux on my computer I used windows and there the tv card worked very well with all channels. The cable is also working correctly, checked it with a normal TV. So I started yast and went to the tv-card section. Here I'm able to select a tuner. The default option, which was selected, is standard tuner. I tried a few, but the problem is that I don't exactly know which tuner device I have. But there was no change to the channels problem. Today I tried to look for some tuner names directly on the pci card, but I didn't find anything. One one big "chip" there is the pinnacle logo and on one another chip there is "Connexant Fusion 878A". My channellist (frequencies): http://www.cablecom.ch/tvradio/sendertabelle.htm?type=plz&keyword=943500&asc =1#Tv

Should be supported by SuSE, my bt878 (Kworld TV) is supported of course if is Pinnacle PCTV Studio Pro, Studio/Rave or Sat

Well I still do not understand xawtv

The important in this kind of detection is the antenna ( of course if you choosed the right tuner )

You cant get cable either? well may be if you do a phone call to your cable provider Tech staff, real tech staff they can tell you the perfect match in tuner. If you do not remember tuner used by windows ( is the same)

You must choose your country tuner in Europe is PAL and in AmericaNTSC in the Pci card instructions you must find the right tuner, (do not use predermined, detected or standard) Or just try with all.
But there was no change to the channels problem.

But you must check the chips name physically, may be you have the new chip if a latin american friend got this card this year may be was available two years ago in your country did you used it before with oyher linux -v? maybe suse 8.2? Hi (again)
But you must check the chips name physically, may be you have the new chip
if a latin american friend got this card this year may be was available two years ago in your country
It seems that I have the new chip: "Connexant Fusion 878A". I used windows before and it worked perfectly. Sam
Hi! Do you choose a country specific channel set or you do a full frequency scan? kwintv has such an option, check it out... The 878 should be supported and working, otherwize you wouldn't get ANY channels! Cheers Eduard --- Samuel Braun <sambraun@gmx.net> wrote:

Hi! I just jumped in on this thread. I've been using a Pinnacle PCTV Pro, with a Brooktree 878, for several years with no problems at all. I first used it with SuSE7.1 or 7.2 and am currently using it with 8.2, at the moment. I find that motv seems to work better for me in the last fews distros than kwintv. Some points: 1) YaST2 has an excellent setup utility for TV cards. In the expert mode, you can specify the tuner that's on the card in question. 2) Was the missing channel(s) by any chance a "digital-only" channel that can only been tuned by a digital cable box? 3) If you're using kwintv; as Eduard mentioned: Did you remember to check the "Scan whole frequency band" box in the setup "Wizard"? This is usually a safer bet than specifying a particular broadcast standard which may, or may not, be observed by your cable provider. Buena Suerte! /mel

Checked all tuners with a script!
2) Was the missing channel(s) by any chance a "digital-only" channel that can only been tuned by a digital cable box?
No it's a normal channel (UHF), if I put a normal TV instead of my pc there, I get it without problems. Before I installed Linux I used windows with the same hardware and I was able to get all the channels Greetings Sam -- +++ GMX - die erste Adresse für Mail, Message, More +++ Neu: Preissenkung für MMS und FreeMMS! http://www.gmx.net
Hi Eduard Thanks for your reply!

I scanned the whole frequency with scantv -a command.
The 878 should be supported and working, otherwize you wouldn't get ANY channels!
It seems that I've the new Chip "Connexant Fusion 878A" on the card. Thanks & Greetings Samuel -- +++ GMX - die erste Adresse für Mail, Message, More +++ Neu: Preissenkung für MMS und FreeMMS! http://www.gmx.net

It seems that I have the new chip: "Connexant Fusion 878A". I think you have also a "Linux problem" because that chip is not supported in

Yes I can get cable, but not all channels!

Already selected PAL! I tryed a script from the internet which trys all tuners, but none can get the UHF channels.... (http://www.mind.lu/~yg/ftvco/) Thanks & Greets Samuel
