Thanks for all the great replies...I visisted the packman site and got mplayer running fine...it's playing all my avis nows...thanks a bunch guys. Now I just gotta figure out how to make the video brighter...it's all too dark. In xp I can advanced desktop settings and adjust to settings for my video card...but as far as I can tell...there's no options like this in suse. I'm still searching through google to come up with something. Turning brightness up mplayer doesn't help at all.

Sounds like you either need to install the proprietary Linux drivers for your graphics card from the card or chip maker's web site...and/or... I assume that your monitor is not too dark 100% of the time? If so, try to adjust the brightness using the monitor's button controls, if the brightness and contrast controls don't make the thing brighten up when cranked to 100% then your picture tube has given up and it is time for a new monitor :-( -Sheldon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alidar" <alidar@optonline.net> To: <suse-multimedia-e@suse.com> Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2004 9:47 PM Subject: Re: Fwd: Re: [suse-multimedia-e] Xine playing avi files

As it turns out...I installed the drivers from the nvidia website and now I can get proper color depth and resolution but still have issue with brightness. I believe the problem is with the avi files because they show up dark under windows also. The only difference is...in windows I have options to increase brightness for video under my advancded desktop settings...but nothing like this is suse. Am I missing this option or is it just not available in linux?
