Thanks for your answer. However, I have the feeling that using Audacity (which is indeed a good program) will lead to re-encoding of the mp3 file. So that will give following conversions: mp3 -> wav - editing - wav -> mp3. I fear that will decrease the overall quality of the songs, that's why I'm looking for a program to do direct cuts in mp3. You might night to install Lame for exporting files as MP3 as this format is not included in the RPM package, if it's suse or rad hat you're using.
