Ever since then, the sound on my system has completely dissapeared and I'm at a complete loss. I've looked at the sound howto but from what it says I'm missing the the sound module in the kernel, but if it had been working prior to my 'mistake' the the sound module should be there.
This is the boot message...
Starting sound driver: snd-card-ens1371 done Starting sound driver: off done Starting sound driver: off done
but cat /dev/sndstat (As per the howto) returns....
cat: /dev/sndstat: No such device
I really have no clue what to do and I don't want to re-install Suse
I've had a similar problem with SuSE and Alsa. I uninstalled alsa, dl'ed the latest tar.gz files and installed using checkinstall. Now if I re-compile the kernal all I do is install the RPMs that checkinstall made me. You may wish to try that if the guru's on this list don't come up with a better idea! HTH Terence
