Sucees Story with hp-nx9005 and Suse 9.1/9.2 and another little wish....
Hello all, just thought to tell you what is the status with my notebook hp nx 9005 ( AMD Athlon XP-M 2000+ / 1.67 GHz, Graphics Controller ATI RADEON IGP320M), In short It all almost work! 1. Sleep: with the help of Stefan Sayfried who kindly provided the new powersave package for 9.1. Suspend to disk works like a charm. As long as ati-agp is black listed, which means no 3D acceleration ;-( 2. The 3D works, (of course with out sleep enabled, and ati-agp un-blacked...) I installed the X.org 6.8.1 rpms from the supplamentary packages, aswell as sax2, and it works in 9.1! It just so sweet. but then How can I get 3D and also suspend to work? If agp is loaded, and suspend is triggered the machine goes down, but freezes on up. I red once about some bug in the kernel somewhere ( I am not kernel expert); http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/199869/match Anyone knows why it is not incorporated into the kernek yet, or how can I apply it? which kernel are you running? I have no machine with ATI chipset at hand but all other chipsets were fixed by the first update-kernel for 9.1.

Anyone knows why it is not incorporated into the kernek yet, or how can I apply it?

Since it works better with the latest version of powersave. Is suspend
to disk is really supposed to work without blacklisting ati-agp??

well, it works on all other chipsets, but i have no ATI-chipset machine to verify this, so i can't be sure. If you need to blacklist it to get it working, it obviously does not work :-( -- Stefan Seyfried
Auch auf die Gefahr hin, dass das schon mal behandelt wurde (mit dem Monatsarchiv komm ich auch nicht wirklich klar): Mein Travelmate 661 Lci (Intel M) hat unter Windows die tolle Eigenschaft, praktisch immer ohne Lüfter zu laufen und dabei nicht warm zu werden. Unter SUSE 9.2 wird das Ding aber ziemlich warm bis heiss (und der Lüfter springt trotzdem nicht an). Ich würde jetzt einerseites gerne haben, dass das Gerät im Leerlauf nicht so viel Energie verbraucht (und Wärme produziert). Und andererseits wenn es schon warm wird, dass dann halt auch der Lüfter anspringt. Kann mir jmd sagen, wo ich da hinfassen muss und ob das eine einfache Sache ist oder (noch) eher mythischen Einstellungen unter Linux gehört (ich habe gesehen, dass das Theme schon öfter mal in Heftchen behandelt wurde - da klang immer alles sehr nach "muss man probieren"). Ich habe auch einen Acer TM 661 LCi (allerdings mit SuSE 9.1). Nach meiner Erfahrung muß der Rechner erst richtig warm werden, bevor der Lüfter anspringt. Dann fühlt er sich subjektiv allerdings schon richtig heiß an (besonders die linke Handauflage - darunter liegt die Festplatte). Dem Prozessor ist dann aber noch nicht zu warm - wenn ich mich recht erinnere, war die CPU bei ca. 65°C als der Lüfter anging. Man kann das u.a. mit einem kleinen Programm beobachten (wpacpiload), die Anzeige ist allerdings recht klein... Gruß Michael

Prozessorlast und der Taktfrequenz kann man sich ganz gut mit wmlaptop anschauen. Man muß es allerdings mit sudo starten, weil sich das Programm sonst beim ersten Taktfrequenzwechsel mit einer Meldung über fehlende Rechte verabschiedet. Mit sudo gestartet kann man ganz gut beobachten, wie sich eine Belastung auf die Taktfrequenz auswirkt: Mein Rechner arbeitet in der Regel mit 600 MHz, der Start von OpenOffice z.B. läßt die Taktfrequenz kurzzeitig auf 1.400 MHz steigen, Film anschauen mit xine/kaffeine führt bei mir zu keiner Taktfrequenzerhöhung.
