Ich habe kein X40, aber ein R51 mit Bluetooth und WLAN, eigentlich beide über [Fn][F5] ansteuerbar.
I have a T41p here and Fn-F5 turns only Bluetooth on and off. The WLAN (Intel chip) is controlled by loading and unloading the kernel module. If the LED is not on, you might want to check that the module is loaded and operational.
Dazu gibt es einen Bug bei der WLAN Konfiguration mit Centrino Chipsatz durch den das WLAN nach Neustart/Resume nicht mehr läuft. Falls ähnliches auftritt hilft der im Thread unter [2] diskutierte Workaround.
I'm not sure if all of the early "Centrino" ThinkPads are really that.
