[opensuse-marketing] openSUSE 11.3 article

Hi there, I talked to pc world newspaper yesterday and asked them to add 11.3 media to the next release. They asked me to write an article (about 3500-5000 character) about openSUSE 11.3. Anyone could recommend a good overview article to use as a guideline? thanks in advance kalman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Sure[1], and after that on LOK[2] as well (Linux in Education) please find the ambassador events page I will do a presentation on both events about openSUSE and a small booth. and I would like to request some swags for both events. best kalman [1] - http://sfd.org.hu/ajanlottak2010 [2] - http://lok.hu/2010/program2010.html [3] - http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Ambassadors_events -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

General list - and please update whatever you find: http://en.opensuse.org/In_the_press For writing an article, the 11.3 portal will help: http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:11.3 Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Kalman, writing is my job, and my english is pretty good (I write for About.com) so if you'd like me to proofread your article for you please feel free to send it to me. As a new openSUSE user, I observed that the installation process for 11.3 was incredibly easy and that the distro looks beautiful - aesthetics matter to me and I've been really pleased with this. More importantly, it's rock-solid stable, and runs well on my old hardware - having the choice of various dekstops was great. Even though I'm running the 64bit version, there were none of the issues with Flash and Java that I'd had with previous editions. It doesn't take too long to find your way around Yast, and Dropbox offers an effective and bug-free file syncing option. Unlike some distros which try to do too much and fail to deliver, openSUSE does its job reliably, beautifully and without fanfare. best, Helen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, but I forgot to mention this article should be Hungarian. If you can point to any good English article I am more than happy to use it. best kalman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

What I might do is have a go at writing a couple of basic articles - I've got a stack of magazines so I can see existing reviews and articles of other distros for a guide - and put them up for input from more knowledgable list members. What sort of reader is your Hungarian article aiming at, Kalman? That would be a big clue as to the direction you need to take. I read the UK mag Linux Format, as it's a good newbie magazine with overviews and interesting interviews - it suits me well. I notice there are quite a few magazines that are much more technical, aimed at developers and sysadmins. best, Helen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

The home windows users are the target audience of the PC World. We have to show why openSUSE is easy to use and could be a replacement of windows and how sexy. Because install DVD will come in that issue, forthcoming hopefully some people will try openSUSE. best kalman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

I would also recommend to look at http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Marketing_materials - I know it is rather sparse now (almost empty hehe) but I would like to put as many tips and things there as possible. The top topics tell you where to find a list of properties of openSUSE 11.3 (that would be here: http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:11.3 ) and a link to openSUSE community info. Moreover, you could check out the talking points here: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Talking_points Again I'd like to ask everyone here to have a look at those! cheers, Jos
