[opensuse-marketing] BoF topics please!

AJ has kindly set up a BoF for the Marketing Team to have a good face to face and hear from everyone what we'd like to see as our continued direction in the marketing team. We realize that many of you cannot make it to the openSUSE Conference this year, but we want to make sure your voices are heard. We have created a wiki page wher you can submit your questions or topics that you'd like to see discussed. And we will make sure to provide as much detail afterward of what was discussed, agreed upon, requires further exploration, etc. This is your chance to participate in the conference even if you are not physically there! http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Marketing_BOF_2010 Bryen M Yunashko openSUSE Marketing Team lead -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

We can make questions about anything? I mean I have questions for Marketing but I also would like to ask to someone to tell me, I would if I were there, about software at tablet pc's... Can we expand to whatever sector we want? Kostas 2010/10/19 Andreas Jaeger <aj@novell.com>:

Just FYI some notes on the Marketing BoF: Discussed: - supporting ambassadors - quality ambassador work? - marketing materials - lack of clear and consistent branding (special branding meeting) goals for next year - focus on ambassadors - enabling them - what to do - give them materials - get basics up and running - announcements - website texts - internationalization - writing for magazines etc I would also like to mention Henne's talk about the huge variety of websites we have which are meant for communication: Lizzards, news, planet, etc etc etc We discussed bringing all that back to Planet + News, where news.o.o would essentially be cherry-picked posts from planet. I think it's a good idea... Altough it has some issues. The notes are VERY incomplete as I wrote some things down I wanted to discuss before the BoF and did not write much DURING the BoF :D Please, Bryen, AJ, Michl, Yaloki, whoever made notes - send them!

We should add the main points what came out of the Artwork session * all agreed in the marketing session, that the situation with the different used styles for marketing materials isnt good most of time in art session, we tried to declare all that artwork guidelines be interpreted from artist and we can break them without breaking. On the end came out, that we have immediately to begin to develop an CI (means a face for all things) But Nuno made clear that this is a <underline>process</underline> that takes time. For the art side would be responsible for the development of that rlihm, javier_ and me But we need input from marketing team how it should look like and the design have to represent on the end our strategy and address our target group. br gnokii -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

My incomplete notes: Focus today on what are priorities for coming year. Looking back: * Seen reenergizing the last three months * There's far more community outside that were not connnected with others. Let's connect them with each other. Comments: * We're still in the initial phase of starting the team. * Allow us to fail * Don't set too high objectives, instead build up a team that works as team, a sustainable team. * More important building the team instead of achieving all goals. * Impressed by what are the ambassadors are doing. * There is no consistent corporate branding for openSUSE - problem for artwork. We need a proper branding and a successfull art work team to support the marketing team. * Ambassadors need a lot of help with support materials. Already doing a lot of things but we should encourage them to document what they are doing and help them. * Exchange of reports by ambassadors is a good way to learn from each other. Reports should also go out to the openSUSE weekly news and planet openSUSE. * Do we really need both ambassador and marketing mailing lists? Or should we better document how each should be used? * Long term we want to have some ambassador leader or an ambassador council to support the ambassador program better. We want to mentor and build up some folks for the future. * Fedora has more requirements for ambassadors what they have to do. Suggestion is to add some more requirements here as well in the long term but not yet. For now, the questionaire that AJ sends out asks for plans for the next months. * We would love to have training for ambassadors. * We want to clean up the ambassador list of people that are really inactive. A measure for now is a user page in the wiki. AI for aj to email everybody without a user page and remove them later. * We really want to have ambassadors connected with each other and the marketing team. * Idea to have proxies for each country to only send e.g. DVDs to one person and to connect people in each country with each other. They can also help translating requests that come in right now. * Jos wants to visit ambassador teams in their countries and support them. * We have the slogan "openSUSE - Linux for open minds". We should revisit the slogan after the strategy has finished. * We need to have good writers and therefore coach them to write good articles. Jos is coaching actively. Writing the initial version is the hardest part, editing text is less demanding. Goal of coaching is that editing text is not needed ;) * We want to ask members from other teams for a brain dump to start writing articles to help the marketing team. -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
