Hi Aditya! How are you ? Do you have time to translate e.g. the light version of the newsletter ? (its basically only the headlines). Best, Jan-Simon On Wednesday 14 January 2009 13:54:02 Aditya Shevade wrote:
Hello,
I am really sorry. It may seem that I am not trying but I really am short on time these days. My college time has been increased. 8am to 5:30pm. :( I will do it once I get a 3-4 days break.
Regards, Aditya

Hi Aditya!
Did you have time to translate an issue yet ?
You might have read the new full/light template threads on opensuse-marketing mailing list. If the full newsletter is too big, what about the light version ?
Please call if you have any questions!

Hi,
Marathi is the language of Maharashtra state in India. openSUSE already
has
Marathi language translation.
All the states in India have their own language. Hindi is used in most states and is the national language too. Marathi is quite similar to
Hindi.
They have some common words and use the same script (called Devanagari).
I will look into the details you have sent me. I am a college going student, so, let me check the workload out first. Translating the entire newsletter alone can be quite a big task. I will certainly try and finish creating the basic template in a couple of days.

Hi Aditya!
I'm no expert in indian language/local indian languages - could you
write
me some info's about the languages used in india ?
Thanks for your interest and welcome to the team ;) .
Here are the first Info's:
1) Overview 2) Wiki-Editing 3) Newsletter 4) Schedule 5) More information / Tools 6) First steps 7) Contact
1) Overview ============= The openSUSE Weekly Newsletter is a collection of articles/posts/status-mails and reflects the activity of the openSUSE community. Out goal is to
keep
people informed about different areas of the project. The main Newsletter is done in English and translated to atm 7 other languages. Local content can/should be added where applicable. Authors/Translators should have signed the Projects Guiding Principles. Most communication happens on the opensuse-marketing mainlinglist. To join this list, just send an email to: opensuse-marketing+subscribe@opensuse.org<opensuse-marketing%2Bsubscr ibe@opensuse.org>
<opensuse-marketing%2Bsubscribe@
opensuse.org> A short introduction of yourself is appreciated but not mandatory.
2) Wiki-Editing ================= The Newsletter is written into the openSUSE.org's wiki-system. Its a Mediawiki and the Syntax can be learned from wikipedia's editing rules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_edit To be able to write to openSUSE.org's wiki, you need to have/register
for
a novell-account.
3) Newsletter =============== The Weekly Newsletter is being drafted allover the week on the future issue's page like so: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/52
That's the next issue's page, but basically: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/XX Where XX is +1 from the last published issue number.
If you have a wiki account, you can just edit it directly. Put in a link/short note or an prepared article. All submissions are welcome - we're not google, so we don't notice all interesting stuff ;) .
4) Schedule ============= We're discussing our schedule, but currently we use this:
Deadline for adding News: Thu 18h UTC Editorial team meeting: Thu between 19h UTC and 21h UTC Translations: Fri/Sat ("soft" deadline Sat 20h UTC) Announcement: Sat 21h UTC (or Sun 9h UTC) Localized annoucements follow as
needed.
5) More information / Tools =============================
To synchronize our work, we use a wiki-page: http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations/Ready
http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Guidelines#Writing_Articles
http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations
We've created a tool to make translating a bit easier:
http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations#Translation_tool
The tool is able to import the raw English newsletter code and
translate
predefined strings (e.g. headings or static content) into the desired language. The strings are prepared in a simple .ini-File.
6) First steps ================
You could grab the Newsletter template (see http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Weekly_News/Translations) and start creating an localized template. Next step could be the .ini-File for the Translation-tool. This can easily be done if you compair the English template with your newly created localized template. Then you can grab the latest released issue and start translating.
-> HAVE FUN !
7) Contact ============
Mail: opensuse-marketing@opensuse.org (PM to dl9pf@gmx.de, if needed) IRC: #opensuse-project (main) #opensuse-newsletter (special channel) on freenode My nick is "dl9pf". Also reachable is Sascha "saigkill".

Hello,
I recently checked the mail in the mailing-list ( http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-announce/2008-12/msg00013.html) about translating the newsletter. Although your post does not list Marathi
(Indian
local language from Maharashtra state) I was thinking if there is
anything I
can do about it. I mean, it is never too late to start the news in
one
more
language is it?
Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
