Hello, [The problems described below happens with SCIM in Xubuntu 6.06 (which I use on a machine that can't handle Suse), so I could understand no answer coming from this Suse-list. However, it's all about SCIM. Got no answer on Ubuntu lists.] I installed scim-tables, scim-m17n, (and all dependencies, trusting Synaptic). Now, at least the m17n-part doesn't work in Scim. In Scim Setup > IMEngine > Generic Table > Table Management, I see that for example "Arabic" is in the file /usr/share/scim/tables/Arabic.bin Now I want to install the m17n input methods too, so in the Setup I try "Install". In the directory /usr/share/m17n/... there are files such as zh-pinyin.mim, latn-pre.mim, he-kbd.mim, or CP1258.map and many others. Trying to install one of these, I read "Error - Failed to load the table file!" I guess the directory /usr/share/m17n/ is not usable to Scim? I tried copying the files in /usr/share/m17n to /usr/share/scim, but to no effect. Same "Error - Failed to load the table file!" Thank you, Herman

What do you mean by "doesn't work"? Can't you select the M17N input methods? Or can you select them but they don't work as expected for you? If you look at Scim Setup → IMEngine → Global Setup you should find the M17N input methods listed there as well. For example, under "Arabic (Egypt)" you should find 2 input methods: M17N-ar-kbd (this is from m17n-lib) Arabic (this is from scim-tables)
In Scim Setup > IMEngine > Generic Table > Table Management, I see that for example "Arabic" is in the file /usr/share/scim/tables/Arabic.bin Now I want to install the m17n input methods too, so in the Setup I try "Install".
This is only for tables supported by "scim-tables", not for m17n.
In the directory /usr/share/m17n/... there are files such as zh-pinyin.mim, latn-pre.mim, he-kbd.mim, or CP1258.map and many others. Trying to install one of these, I read "Error - Failed to load the table file!"
Because these tables are not in the format used by "scim-tables". The input methods in /usr/share/m17n have a different format.
I guess the directory /usr/share/m17n/ is not usable to Scim?
It is usable by SCIM, but via the scim-m17n, not via scim-tables.
I tried copying the files in /usr/share/m17n to /usr/share/scim, but to no effect. Same "Error - Failed to load the table file!"
Leave these files where they were, /usr/share/m17n is the correct place for these files. There should be no special setup necessary, if all needed packages are installed, it should work out of the box. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
