Hello,
I'd like to propose the following additions to patterns-openSUSE-lxde:
totem totem-browser-plugin opensuse-codecs-installer gstreamer-0_10-plugins-base gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good gstreamer-0_10-schroedinger gstreamer-utils
* because there is no video player * and it does not draw in additional dependencies * through gstreamer and Packman there is easy access to restricted codecs
i agree.. i'll add them
* currently mp3 support cannot be added to lxmusic rendering it rather useless IMO
the problem is xmms2 not lxmusic. xmms2 with mp3 and other restricted plugins is into packman as any other restricted package.
yast2-gtk
* yast2-qt is installed by default but LXDE is a GTK-based DE
this is a point that really need to be discussed. actually choosing NOTHING, the qt UI is choosed by default, IMHO it's a better choise, even because match better the desktop appereance. QT gui, IMHO, is even much easier (and bug less) than gtk gui.
xsane
* there is no application for scanning, proposed by Andrea
already fixed. imaging pattern will be installed by default (and that include xsane)
NetworkManager-gnome
* currently only in patterns-openSUSE-lxde_laptop, but it makes sense on desktop systems as well, allowing non-root users to manage VPN/PPP/WLAN connections
not sure here... even other DE, like KDE or GNOME do NOT install network manager if a "desktop" pc is detected. openSUSE policy is: install and use IFUP. IF a laptop/netbook/mobile device is found, install and use network manager. i don't think it's a good idea change that behavior, even because, you'll still need to manually run yast and switch to NM. enable/disable ifup/NM is done by installer.
brasero
* I have removed the Nautilus dependency, it can now replace xfburn allowing us to get rid of Thunar as well
is you submitreq already been accepted? what's the cost on "used resources" between brasero and xfburn (already the deault lubuntu/fedora choise) ? OK, I see that you've got a linked xmms2 package in PBMS, I didn't find it with zypper yesterday because it apparently hasn't been published yet.

I personally find the GTK interface cleaner, however I think it shouldn't be a matter of preference but rather of consistency as both provide equivalent functionality. XFCE and GNOME patterns install the GTK interface as they're GTK-based DE's like LXDE, that's why I think that the qt interface looks a bit out of place.
NetworkManager-gnome
* currently only in patterns-openSUSE-lxde_laptop, but it makes sense on desktop systems as well, allowing non-root users to manage VPN/PPP/WLAN connections

No, it's installed by default, see patterns-openSUSE-kde4_basis and patterns-openSUSE-gnome_basis. Networkmanager is not something Laptop-specific, it is also installed by default on Lubuntu/Fedora.

It's been in Factory since last week. xfburn takes about 13MB RSS and brasero 18MB, it's still very lightweight compared to gmixer :^) + no more Thunar. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+help@opensuse.org
