[opensuse-kernel] can dmesg CIFGS VIFS noise be prevented
I require access to OS/2 constantly. Can this noise be prevented from littering logs? [...] CIFS VFS: Use of the less secure dialect vers=1.0 is not recommended unless required for access to very old servers [...] CIFS VFS: Send error in QFSAttributeInfo = -95 -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science. Not easily (only by patching the kernel or unconfiguring CONFIG_CIFS_DEBUG
which would silence also other presumably useful messages). The message seems
to be emitted once per mount, that doesn't seem that noisy... But you can
talk to upstream CIFS developers, maybe they'd be willing to change the
message to a debug message and then you could enable / disable the message
as you wish through dynamic debug message configuration.

Both messages are printed using cifs_dbg(VFS, ""). The VFS parameter causes that they are actually printed as pr_err("") and are always logged. Well, it seems that all cifs_dbg() messages are printed only when CONFIG_CIFS_DEBUG build option is enabled. We have it enabled even in kernel-default. Do you have a chance to use custom build with this config option disabled? Best Regards, Petr

Only if someone else provides the rpm(s) required. It's my 24/7 15.1 system doing it, though I suppose I should be able to reproduce on a test box in TW. -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science.
