The build service is currently having "issues" (i.e. no power) combined with a problem of getting working kernels the past few days due to a lot of changes we made to the packages, contributed to a loss of the KOTD packages. 2.6.27-rc9.HEAD_20081009181916 with kernel-source-....x86_64.rpm generated from .src.rpm works fine for me. With 2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644 the issue with the missing x86_64.rpm seems to be fixed. But 2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644-default fails now in early boot stage with a kernel-panic: "cannot execute /init". No, we were having problems getting kernels built :) That's not a good error to have, is the initrd found properly? Your block devices? We're going to need more information. No, no binary rpms installed at all , only kernel-source-2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644.x86_64.rpm, then copied linux-2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644-obj/x86_64/default/.config to .config and build the kernel with "make oldconfig && make -j4 && make modules_install && make install" using gcc-Version 4.3.1 20080507 (prerelease) [gcc-4_3-branch revision 135036] (SUSE Linux). This is the same procedure, I'am using for all KOTDs. and which was sucessful for 2.6.27-rc9.HEAD_20081009181916. It fails allready in very early stage ( not more then about ten lines of messages without any messages concerning block devices) with "cannot execute /init". So I think, the kernel cannot setup the initrd, but the file initrd-2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644-default and the right entries in /boot/grub/menu.lst exist and I would expect another error message , if grub wasn't able to load that file into memory. The first thing, I did after the failure, was to rebuild the initrd. The messages of mkinitrd look fine, but that didn't change anything, it still fails with the same problem : Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.25.16-0.1-default Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.25.16-0.1-default cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirect-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirectfb-1.1.so.0“ nicht m öglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libfusion-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2504CS09QJ10Y B21574-part5 (/dev/sdc5) (mounted on / as reiserfs) Resume device: /dev/sdb1 Kernel Modules: processor thermal dock scsi_mod libata sata_sil24 sata_nv pata_amd fan reiserfs edd sd_mod usbcore ohci-hcd uhci-h cd ehci-hcd ff-memless hid usbhid Features: block usb resume.userspace resume.kernel Bootsplash: No bootsplash for kernel flavor default 22777 blocks Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644-default Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644-default cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirect-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirectfb-1.1.so.0“ nicht m öglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libfusion-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2504CS09QJ10Y B21574-part5 (/dev/sdc5) (mounted on / as reiserfs) Resume device: /dev/sdb1 Kernel Modules: hwmon thermal_sys processor thermal dock scsi_mod libata sata_sil24 sata_nv pata_amd fan reiserfs edd crc-t10dif s d_mod usbcore ohci-hcd uhci-hcd ehci-hcd ff-memless hid usbhid Features: block usb resume.userspace resume.kernel Bootsplash: No bootsplash for kernel flavor default 23350 blocks Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-rc8-HEAD_20081003182016-defa ult Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.27-rc8-HEAD_20081003182016-defau lt cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirect-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirectfb-1.1.so.0“ nicht m öglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libfusion-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2504CS09QJ10Y B21574-part5 (/dev/sdc5) (mounted on / as reiserfs) Resume device: /dev/sdb1 Kernel Modules: processor thermal dock scsi_mod libata sata_sil24 sata_nv pata_amd fan reiserfs edd crc-t10dif sd_mod usbcore ohci -hcd uhci-hcd ehci-hcd ff-memless hid usbhid Features: block usb resume.userspace resume.kernel Bootsplash: No bootsplash for kernel flavor default 23210 blocks Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-rc8-HEAD_20081005114808-defa ult Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.27-rc8-HEAD_20081005114808-defau lt cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirect-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirectfb-1.1.so.0“ nicht m öglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libfusion-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2504CS09QJ10Y B21574-part5 (/dev/sdc5) (mounted on / as reiserfs) Resume device: /dev/sdb1 Kernel Modules: processor thermal dock scsi_mod libata sata_sil24 sata_nv pata_amd fan reiserfs edd crc-t10dif sd_mod usbcore ohci -hcd uhci-hcd ehci-hcd ff-memless hid usbhid Features: block usb resume.userspace resume.kernel Bootsplash: No bootsplash for kernel flavor default 23210 blocks Kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-rc9-HEAD_20081009181916-defa ult Initrd image: /boot/initrd-2.6.27-rc9-HEAD_20081009181916-defau lt cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirect-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libdirectfb-1.1.so.0“ nicht m öglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden cp: Aufruf von stat für „/usr/lib64/libfusion-1.1.so.0“ nicht mög lich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden Root device: /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2504CS09QJ10Y B21574-part5 (/dev/sdc5) (mounted on / as reiserfs) Resume device: /dev/sdb1 Kernel Modules: hwmon thermal_sys processor thermal dock scsi_mod libata sata_sil24 sata_nv pata_amd fan reiserfs edd crc-t10dif s d_mod usbcore ohci-hcd uhci-hcd ehci-hcd ff-memless hid usbhid Features: block usb resume.userspace resume.kernel Bootsplash: No bootsplash for kernel flavor default 23351 blocks Looking into the contents of the initrd shows that there are the same files except the kernel modules for 2.6.27-HEAD_20081010035644 and 2.6.27-rc9-HEAD_20081009181916. I've added my comments to Andeas' bug. But could someone check the buildsystem for the KOTD. There are still no kernel-defaults packages for 2.6.27-HEAD_20081013133112 x86_64, but there is for example http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/x86_64/kernel-ppc64-abuild... , which is totally wrong there. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+help@opensuse.org

Not really ,the last lines before are : Freeing unused kernel memory 1460k freed Write protecting the kernel readonly data 4936k Failed to execute /init The messages until the failure are identical to the working 2.6.27-rc9-HEAD_20081009181916 kernel, which goes on with fastboot and then starts console logging. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+help@opensuse.org

What happened to http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/x86_64/kernel-source-2.6.2... ?
Might be a result of the power outage :-( I expect it to be fixed after the next commit.
There is only kernel-source-2.6.27-rc9.HEAD_20081009181916.src.rpm. kernel-source-2.6.27-rc9.HEAD_20081009181916.i586.rpm is now found in .../HEAD/i386 , in .../HEAD/i586 is only the .src.rpm, all other arches have both the .src.rpm and the <arch>.rpm like before.
