[opensuse-kernel] openSUSE 12.3 kernel
Hi, Are you aiming for 3.8 or will we stick with 3.7.X? Next week I want to release Beta1 and it should have the correct code line for the kernel. If your choice is 3.8, then we should go to RC2 IMO. Ah, one other thing Bernhard brought up: what are the chances of having a recent overlayfs merged into our kernel? Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org

I see no problem with either 3.7 or 3.8 in this respect, the latest overlayfs (which is in factory) applies without major problems to either one. Thanks, Miklos -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org

Cool, so it sounds easy to have it for the factory kernel. I would like to rework the live cds to persistent USB images and playing with overlayfs sounds good. We can do 3.8 if the the possibility of slipping the 12.3 release date until after 3.8 goes final is on the table. The kernel typically takes 90 days between releases and, ignoring any delays due to the holidays, that puts the next release at approx 11 Mar. As we've seen in past releases, peak instability is at -rc2 (which is already merged modulo Xen and the ext4 richacl support, which needs upstream coordination and a path to convert existing users if there are any). I've already merged the -rc2 kernel into master, so that part is easy enough. It's the commitment on the back end to be able to slip the schedule that's important. - -Jeff - -- Jeff Mahoney SUSE Labs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG/MacGPG2 v2.0.18 (Darwin) Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org Comment: Using GnuPG with undefined - http://www.enigmail.net/ iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJQ7E3BAAoJEB57S2MheeWyViMQALF97Lty+JHTv0nyha9ltWI5 5ioTcJdG6RCjAO4nXumttjM1tLgczMtn3z/qvWeLqk34wTY7r0CZ52W3Nuji3TiH ZvBcncyqigoPBHk64b1B6PbQrMMkamx4l/N0jKX0yKAYbbDBZj0AynmHx2kktcPJ m+m0PU8p+vUZmJjnxVsgNzmhtxZb0PABfEqM6f5XeQAwM06b8g8F5Em0wKhZ09fQ TMGu12ZLr8XE5g2dQhJEWToiwN02sHg+aNh5+2n3Zq9TdCsQhNlZwbYoZBUTWk/k HbGdXNEJfaTv9+ykZdiZY7x3mGU9VgL5Ar4jiFT4tyXy2gzPfOYS4yymknVWEF9V iWz6fRn6jrAlF+KICc/pEx5HXdKT+Gg/TR5gzUrXNabthYjB+h5UBsFLt5FFP53E 68L/LPxJx/A0lHfWcPbz+zvao+nxCCjvO/sfynoxSzWHRULcxSd9FjShczQweOMU iIf+t1qBSk+1doaKEQ9oV1JX1/7v/KSFWNlR1d4FnR+xYXiDdddXuMsU/DLU0iQP obavWe2CFN24yoi8rmdCSMHJ/0bSa+BCo0czYwKjq1HI4p4U1lefkmNVs3GE9dHs 26ADA8UNgoT0cQjtCQ/b6/sztLOhZTWe2g3hsVPKvDvLNV3G4V8p2XTcOheI1PRH bBl/mIpWViOuedo3BGDe =Fi4+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org

Hi,
Are you aiming for 3.8 or will we stick with 3.7.X? Next week I want to release Beta1 and it should have the correct code line for the kernel. If your choice is 3.8, then we should go to RC2 IMO.
Nah, that won't work then. GM is for 7 Mar - I don't want us to put ourselves in Linus' hands, so we would need to release with a RC with a promised final update. But that wouldn't be fair to neither the kernel community or to our users, so then let's go with a 3.7.X and change the devel project now. Yeah, I wouldn't want to release GM with an RC kernel either. I've just branched the kernel to openSUSE-12.3 (from before the 3.8-rc1 update and also grabbed the hyperv update from Olaf). Michal, can we get that set up for KOTD building?
